Complete List Of All Realistic and Optimus Stereo Receivers

I have always been fascinated with vintage and modern electronics and especially audio and video equipment. Lately I have been bit by the vintage Hi-Fi Stereo equipment bug. Radio Shack is not the most sought after brand right now but they are one of the most well known and did make some pretty good and in some cases great stereo receivers. They are somewhat underrated in my opinion and I know there are some collectors out there that love them. With vintage gear it's not always about the quality specifications of the equipment but about the memories it might invoke of youth. It's about the things we had and loved back then or the things we really wanted then but could never afford. The home theater and Hi-Fi magazines were my favorites back in the day but the magazines were all I could really afford. The Radio Shack catalog was another place I loved to look at things that I wanted but usually never got.
I was searching for a complete list of all the Radio Shack Optimus receivers that were ever produced and couldn't locate one anywhere. I did however find and awesome site called www.radioshackcatalogs.com which is a database of all the radio shack catalogs ever published as well as a ton of other great stuff! From these catalogs I was able to extract a list of most of the receivers they carried going back to the late 60s. After I finish this I plan on moving to another manufacturer and doing the same kind of model number database for them, probably start with Sansui or Pioneer. PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT IF I HAVE MISSED ANY MODELS. THANK YOU FOR VISITING AND PLEASE SHARE THE LINK!

  1. Hi there,
Since the end of last year I own a Realistic STA-30 receiver. This model isn't listed in your list.
I was searching for technical information in order to make it work again but nobody seems to know this model. The STA-71 looks somewhat the same but the pcb with powersupply and amplifier are completely different .
I hope you can help me find the specifications of the STA-30. If you want some pictures just let me know.
    With regards,
    Bert Emmens (The Netherlands)

  3. You have the STA-2700 in the catalog pages images, but its' missing from the index list near the top of the page. I had stupidly sold both my STA-2500 and my father's STA-2600 some years after I inherited it (for the dopey reason that they only memorize 6 AM and 6 FM radio stations), only to realize now that I primarily listen to Internet radio and my ripped MP3 collection via Daphile and can listen to all the FM Channels I want that way. So... I happily traded a single large speaker I had been trying to get rid of for an STA-2700 WITH REMOTE, and it's easily as good as the 2500 or 2600 had been. Very happy.

  6. You missed the STA-870 with IMX Expander ... I had gotten that when I was in high school circa 1986.
